KAVUNI RICE PONGAL RECIPE 

INGREDIENTS

Kavuni rice - 1 cup
Moong dal - 1/2 cup
Cumin seeds - 1/4 tsp
Rock salt - 1 tsp
Water - 4 cups

INGREDIENTS FOR TEMPERING

Ghee - 2 tbsp
Whole pepper - 1/2 tsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cashewnuts - 10 nos
Finely chopped ginger - 2 tsp
Curry leaves - 1 string
Asafoetida - 2 pinches

Preparation time : 15 minutes
Soaking time : 8 hours
No of servings : 2-3 members
Cuisine : Indian
Coarse : Breakfast

Method:

1. Add kavuni rice in a bowl, rinse it well, add water and soak for 8 hours.

2. Drain the water, place it in a pressure cooker, add moong dal, cumin seeds, salt and water.

3. Cover it with the lid, pressure cook for 10 whistles, mash it and set aside.

4. Heat ghee in a pan, add cumin seeds, whole pepper, cashewnuts, ginger, curry leaves and asafoetida.

5. Saute for a minute, pour the temperings in the pongal mix well and serve.

Take 1 cup of kavuni rice in a bowl

Rinse it well

Add water 

Soak for 8 hours

Drain the water and place it in a pressure cooker

Add 1/2 cup of washed moong dal

Add 2 pinches of cumin seeds and salt

Add 4 cups of water

Cover and pressure cook for 10 whistles

Mash it and set aside

Heat 2 tbsp of ghee in a pan, add 1/2 tsp
of cumin seeds and whole pepper

Add cashewnuts, chopped ginger, curry leaves
and asafoetida

Saute for a minute

Pour the temperings in the pongal

Mix well

Serve
