PAASI PARUPU KADAYAL RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

Green gram - 1/2 cup
Roughtly chopped onion - 1  no (big)
Roughtly chopped tomatoes - 3 nos
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Dry red chilies - 5 nos
Water - 4 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp                                                                                                                             

INGREDIENTS FOR TEMPERING

Oil - 2 tbsp
Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
Finely chopped garlic - 10 nos
Curry leaves - 1 string
Salt - 1 tbsp
Water - 1/2 cup

Preparation time : 15 minutes
Cooking time : 35 minutes
No of servings : 4 members
Cuisine : South Indian
Coarse :  Side Dish for white rice, idly, ragi mudde or dosa 

Method:

1. Heat a pan, add green gram and dry roast for 2-3 minutes.

2. Place the roasted green gram in a pressure cooker and rinse well for 2-3 times.

3. Break dry red chilies into small pieces and add it in the pressure cooker.

4. Add chopped onion, tomatoes, turmeric powder, water, cover and pressure cook for 7-8 whistles.

5. Mash the dal, tomatoes and set aside.

6. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and let it splatter.

7. Add chopped onion, curry leaves and saute until it turns golden brown in color.

8. Add mashed dal, salt, water, stir well, boil for 2 minutes, turn off the flme and serve.

Heat a pan and add 1/2 cup of green gram

Dry rost for 2-3 minutes in medium flame

Place the roasted green gram in a pressure cooker
and rinse it well for 2-3 times

Break dry red chilies into small pieces

Add the chilies in the pressure cooker

Add chopped onion

Add chopped tomatoes

Add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder

Add 4 cups of water

Cover and pressure cook for 7-8 whistles

The dal and tomatoes has been cooked well

Mash the cooked dal and tomatoes

Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a kadai,
add 1/2 tsp of mustard seeds,
1/2 tsp of cumin seeds and let it splatter

Add chopped onion and curry leaves

Saute until it turns golden brown in color

Add mashed dal

Add salt

Add 1/2 cup of water

Stir well

Boil for 2 minutes in medium
 flame and turn off the flame

Serve hot with white rice, idly, dosa
or ragi mudde
