CHAKOTHA SOPPU SAMBAR RECIPE
INGREDIENTS
Toor dal - 1/2 cup Green chilies - 5 nos Peeled garlic - 10 nos Roughtly chopped tomatoes - 2 nos (big) Chakotha spinach - 1 bunch (small) Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp Water - 4 cups Salt - 2 tsp (as required)
INGREDIENTS FOR TEMPERING
Oil - 2 tbsp Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp Finely chopped onion - 1 no (medium size)
Preparation time : 20 minutes Cooking time : 30 minutes Size of the cooker : 5 litres No of servings : 3-4 members Cuisine : Karnataka Coarse : Side Dish for white rice or mudde
Method:
1. Take chakotha spinach and clean it well.
2. Add toor dal in a pressure cooker, wash well, add green chilies, garlic and finely chopped tomato.
3. Rinse the spinach well, chop it finely and add it in the pressure cooker.
4. Add turmeric powder, water and pressure cook for 5 whistles.
5. Once when the spinach and dal cooks well, mash it well, add salt and set aside.
6. Heat oil in a kadai, add mustard seeds, cumin seeds and let it splatter.
7. Add chopped onion, saute well, add mashed dal, stir it once, bring it to a boil, turn off the flame and serve hot. |
