MORUNGA KEERAI THOVAYAL RECIPE

INGREDIENTS

Oil - 1 tbsp
Chana dal - 1 tbsp
Urad dal - 1 tbsp
Peeled garlic - 3 nos
Dry red chilies - 3 nos
Roughtly chopped onion - 1 no
Cleaned drumstick leaves - 1 handful
Chopped coconut - 1/4 cup
Tamarind - a small piece
Salt - 1 tsp (as required)
Jaggery - 1 tsp
Water - 1/4 cup (for grinding)

Preparation time : 15 minutes
Cooking time : 15 minutes
No of servings : 3-4 members
Cuisine : South Indian
Coarse : Side Dish for rice

Method:

1. Clean the drumstick leaves, wash and drain well.

2. Heat oil in a pan, add chana dal, urad dal and fry until it turns golden brown in color.

3. Add red chilies, garlic, onion, curry leaves and saute for 2 minutes in medium flame.

4. Add washed drumstick leaves, saute for 3-4 minutes in medium flame, turn off  the flame and cool          down completely.

5. Place the sauted ingredients in a blender jar, add chopped coconut, tamarind, jaggery, salt and pulse        it around 2-3 times.

6. Add water, grind it into smooth paste and serve the thovayal with white rice.

Saute for 2 minutes in medium flame

Add washed dumstick leaves

Saute for 3-4 minutes in medium flame

Turn off the flame and cool down completely

Place the sauted ingredients in a blender jar

Add 1/4 cup of chopped coconut

Add tamarind and jaggery

Add salt

Pulse it around 2-3 times

Add water

Grind it into smooth paste

Serve with white rice
