KUMBAKONAM KADAPPA RECIPE
INGREDIENTS FOR BOILING
Peeled potato - 2 nos (medium)
Roasted moong dal - 1/4 cup
Green chili -3 nos
Water - 1 1/2 cup
INGREDIENTS FOR GRINDING
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Poppy seeds - 1/2 tsp
Fried gram - 2 tsp
Fenal seeds - 1 tsp
Green chili -3 nos
Ginger - 3 piece
Garlic - 3 cloves
INGREDIENTS FOR TEMPERING
Cooking oil -2 tbsp
Fenal seeds - 1/2 tsp
Cinamon stick - 1 no (small)
Cloves / Lavangam - 2 nos
Sliced onion - 1 no (big)
Curry leaves - 1 string
Chopped tomato - 1 no (small)
Salt - 2 tsp (as required)
Lemon juice - 1 tsp (optional)
Chopped coriander leaves - few
Method:
1. In a cooker, add moong dal and roast for few minutes, rinse well for 2-3 times and add 1 1/2 cup of water.
2. Add peeled and chopped potatoes, cover and cook for 2 whistles,Cool them completely. Smash slightly and set aside.
3.Grind all the ingridients and set aside. Take a pan, add some oil cinamon, cloves, fenal seeds and roast them for few seconds.
4. Add chopped onions and cook until it turns translosent.Add curry leaves, chopped tomatoes,1 tsp of salt and saute untile it turns mashy in medium flame.
5. Add cooked, mashed moong dal and potatoes along with ground paste. give a good mix and add water accordingly.Add salt adjust it as per the taste.
6. Bring it to a nice boil for 5 minutes.Add somes lemon juice, sprinkle some coriander leaves and serve hot with idly,dosa,chapatti,poori and idiyaappam.
