VEN PONGAL RECIPE


INGREDIENTS

Raw rice - 1 cup
Yellow moong dal/pasi paruppu - 1/2 cup
Water - 5 cups
Slit green chili - 3 nos
Salt - 2 tsp [as required]

FOR TEMPERING

Oil - 2 tbsp
Ghee - 1 tbsp+1 tsp
Pepper corns - 2 tsp
Cumin seeds/jeeragam - 2 tsp
Grated ginger - 1 tbsp
Cashew nuts - 10 nos
Asafoetida/hing/perungayam - 2 pinches

Preparation time : 10 minutes
Cooking time :30 minutes
No of serving : 4 members

Method :

1. Dry roast the rice and moong dal.

2.Place it to a pressure cooker rinse it 3-4 times and
 then add 5 cup of water.

3.Add green chili and salt bring it to a boil,
 pressure cook for 3 whistles.

4.Mix and slightly mash the cooked rice 
and dal, Set them aside.

5.Heat oil and ghee in a pan add pepper corns, cumin seeds, 
cashew nuts, ginger, asafoetida and curry
 leaves then fry.

6.Add all the fried ingredients in the
 pongal ,finally add a little ghee mix and serve.


Take all the ingredients

Heat a pan add rice and moong dal   

Dry roast them till you get nice aroma

Place them in a pressure cooker

Rinse them for 2-3 times

Add 5 cups of water


Add slit green chili

Add salt

Stir once

Cover with a lid and pressure cook for 3 whistles

Now the rice is cooked

Mix just once

Add 2 tbsp of oil

Add 1 tbsp of ghee

Melt the ghee

Add cumin seeds and pepper corns

Add cashew nuts

Saute well

Add grated ginger

Fry once

Add asafoetida powder

Saute well

Add all the tempered ingredients in the pongal


Mix well

Add 1 tsp of ghee and mix once

Serve and enjoy hot
